I chose the latter.
“Brigitte, you can let this deter you or drive you.”
As I sat in her hospital room on December 27th, 2019, I said to myself,
My father, a brilliant man, lived a life of service to others. The man had one opportunity: he did not prioritize his health. He put his commitment and dedication to his family, friends, work, and the church community before his own needs.
In April 2018, I had just left my corporate job to take on my business full-time. In August 2018, my dad passed away. Sixteen months later, my mother was diagnosed with leukemia on December 24th, 2019.
My father came to this country from Palestine in 1963 to start building his American Dream. My mother came to the United States in 1974; she and my dad would root themselves permanently in the Philadelphia metropolis area.
My father was an aerospace engineer for the U.S. Navy fine-tuning the safety systems on the aircrafts. He also had the honor of working for NASA. Yes, you're reading this right: my father was a rocket scientist. Within both sectors of work, my father saved countless lives in our U.S. military and aeronautical units.
○ I hated being tall until I learned the power of my legs. I learned my body is a powerhouse. I am now an avid gym “rat” and runner.
Life is an ecosystem; everything is connected. How you handle one area of your life is how you handle every area. Thriving in physical health is just as important as thriving in professional health; thus, helping others achieve the same in their businesses.
○ Can we grab a drink or coffee together outside of work?
○ Can I picture myself stranded in an airport for hours at a time with you? (Yes. I’m serious)
Are you involved in your community and driving social change?
I wouldn’t have it any other way!
Business and personal lesson: life doesn’t wait. We manage and uplevel our businesses in times of crisis and exude to others what is possible. The goal is to always show the human experience above everything else.
○ Merchandising, supply chain, logistics, recruiting, training, human resources, consumer behaviorism: you name it, I learned it.
○ My daily ensemble consisted of red and khaki.
Wise words my first manager told me: “Brigitte, you can say whatever you need to say, to whoever in this world, it’s just the way you say it.” I live by these words everyday in business.
○ Addressing the homeless crisis here in Philadelphia
○ Educating others on the Palestininan culture in a unique way
as a business owner
Representation of all walks of life in business is a main priority as a business consultant. I also seek out businesses that are focusing on social change too.
○ Dad came here in 1963, mom came over from Palestine in 1974
○ Dad was an aerospace engineer for the U.S. Navy and a rocket scientist for NASA. Mom was a school teacher.
My work ethic and integrity comes from my parents. Everyday, I wake up thinking, “how can I serve the greater good today with my skills and knowledge?”
○ Treasurer of the North American Council (SOYO) Orthodox Christian Youth Group at age 17
○ Business Floor Resident Assistant in college
○ Mission work in a Guatemalan orphanage in Guatemala City
This laid the foundation for the leadership roles and network I have today built in service to others.
